Drug Take Back Day is April 25th (Plus: Where to Discard Your Medications in Columbus)
ASAP joins with partners across the country in promoting the 30th anniversary of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 25th. This initiative aims to provide safe, convenient, and anonymous way for community members to dispose of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications.
In Columbus we are fortunate to have medication drop-off kiosks available year around at:
Why You Should Always Safely Discard Expired, Unused, and Unwanted Prescriptions
Unused prescription medications sitting in home medicine cabinets are one of the most common — and most preventable — sources of misuse. According to the DEA, most people who misuse prescription drugs get them from family and friends, often straight from an unsecured cabinet. That means every expired bottle cleaned out is one less opportunity for accidental poisoning, teen experimentation, or a loved one's relapse.
Proper disposal also protects our environment. Flushing medications or tossing them in the trash allows chemicals to leach into waterways and soil, contaminating the same water our families and neighbors rely on.
Since the program began in 2010, Take Back Day has safely removed more than 20 million pounds of medication from American homes. Every bottle counts — and in Columbus, you don't have to wait for April 25th. The three kiosks listed above accept medications year-round, making safe disposal part of everyday life, not just a twice-a-year event.
Cleaning out your medicine cabinet is a small act with real ripple effects: safer homes, healthier waterways, and a stronger community recovery ecosystem.
